About Us

The Estess Guesthouse, at 911 Magnolia Ave., is available  for guests, weddings, parties, family get-togethers,
receptions, private dinners cooked and served by our own cooks, or any reasonable gathering.
The house, on an acre of land right in the middle of Tylertown, Mississippi, was built around 1924, and is a two-bath, two and a half bedroom cottage with living room, den, kitchen, two televisions, a DVD player, and a piano. Antiques are throughout the house.
The house was a family home for Ansel and Lavern Estess, who moved from Progress in 1952, with their two sons, Ted and the late Roy S. Estess.  Ansel Estess, a long-time and award winning county agent of Walthall county (who became president of the national county agents' organization), died in the summer of 1992, and his wife Lavern passed away during the same time period.  Lavern had been a forty-year second grade teacher at Tylertown Elementary School.
Ted Estess, the Estess' younger son, and his wife, Sybil, also from Mississippi, purchased the home in 1993, although they live in Houston. They have often visited Tylertown and stayed in the house.
Recent fully redecorated, Estess Guesthouse became open to the public in June, 2010.  It is managed by Tandra Duncan and her helper Chantly Clouate.  Since the  spring of 2010, many new features have been added, including new linens, paint, flowers, patio and deck furnishings.  The house includes many windows and lots of light. Convenient to downtown Tylertown, the house is near the Walthall Courthouse, a block from downtown Tylertown and two blocks from the new Centennial Square.  It is within walking distance of a grocery store and practically anything one would want in Tylertown, plus it is only a short ride to all cafes.
